Local councillors have visited a construction site in Neath to check on the progress of a multistorey car park being built as part of the town’s redevelopment project.
The car park is currently being constructed in the Welsh town next to its Civic Centre, and opposite the location of its current multistorey car park. The plan for this particular project is to construct a 600-space facility, and this will be the first piece in a redevelopment project that will see a 24,000 sq. ft retail unit constructed alongside it in the future.
Some work has already been completed, as the structural steelwork is now in place, with the external cladding work now also in progress. Work will be ongoing for several months before the completion of the staircases can be done.
Work on the concrete flooring of the car park is also underway, with the concrete slab expected to be completed very soon. The flooring is being installed in tandem with a ceiling and paintwork. Once this work is finished, electrical installation will commence.
The leader of the Neath Port Talbot Council, Councillor Ali Thomas, has expressed delight at the progress being made on this project and believes that it will provide residents and visitors to Neath with a first class shopping facility, bringing “much welcomed business” to the area.
The car park is expected to be completed in August, with the town’s current multistorey facility remaining in operation until the new site is ready to be used.
