A north London recycling centre has reopened, following a month-long closure for a major refurbishment project.
The Barrowell Green Recycling Centre, in the Capital’s Winchmore Hill area of Enfield, was closed throughout October 2012. The major task undertaken was the repair and installation of new concrete flooring. The £225,000 overhaul also saw new waste containers installed for green disposals.
During the closure, local householders were urged to use other recycling centres in the area. However, Enfield Borough Council also gave local householders a discount on bulky waste collections from their homes. It cost just £25 per collection, rather than rising incrementally to £75.
Announcing the reopening, Chris Bond said:
“Barrowell Green is a popular facility and we decided to carry out some essential maintenance to the site during one of the quieter months to make sure it could continue to meet the needs of residents.”
Bond, environmental consultant and cabinet member of the council, also urged local residents to use the upgraded site.
“These works mean this site can continue to provide a high quality service to our residents and play a vital role in helping us to manage our waste for years to come.”
To help make the site more customer friendly, overhead signs were also upgraded. Other steps to increase accessibility included new road markings and changes to the management of traffic.
It is hoped the introductions will significantly improve traffic flow through the site and speed up waiting times.
